Manual 02: Create An Agent

What This Guide Is For

Use this guide to create an Agent that can answer questions, use Tools, work with knowledge, and support repeatable workflows.

Before You Start

You need:

  • permission to create Agents;
  • a clear task for the Agent;
  • optional: a Space with knowledge files or websites;
  • optional: enabled Tools such as web search, OCR, image analysis, or email.

Step 1: Open Agents

  1. Go to Agents.
  2. Select Create Agent.
  3. Choose whether the Agent is personal, workspace-wide, or internal/admin-only.

Expected result: a new Agent draft opens.

Step 2: Name The Agent

  1. Add a short name.
  2. Add a plain-language description.
  3. Choose an icon or color if the platform supports it.

Good example:

Name: Research Assistant
Description: Helps collect sources, summarize findings, and draft reports.

Step 3: Define The Agent's Job

Write instructions that explain:

  • what the Agent should help with;
  • what it should avoid;
  • what output style it should use;
  • when it should ask a question;
  • when it should use Tools.

Example:

You help users research industrial suppliers. Prefer concise answers, cite source material, and ask a clarifying question when the company, region, or product category is missing.

Step 4: Connect Knowledge

  1. Open the Agent's Knowledge or Spaces section.
  2. Select one or more Spaces.
  3. Choose whether the Agent can search all files or only selected sources.
  4. Save.

Expected result: the Agent can use approved workspace knowledge.

Step 5: Enable Tools

  1. Open the Agent's Tools section.
  2. Enable only the Tools the Agent needs.
  3. Configure required permissions or limits.
  4. Save.

Common Tools:

  • Web search.
  • Deep research.
  • File reading.
  • OCR.
  • Image analysis.
  • Video analysis.
  • Text-to-speech.
  • Email or webhook actions.

Step 6: Test The Agent

  1. Open the test chat.
  2. Ask a simple question related to the task.
  3. Check whether the Agent answers in the expected style.
  4. Ask a task that requires a Tool.
  5. Check the Tool call status and result.

Expected result: the Agent responds clearly and uses only approved Tools.

Step 7: Publish Or Share The Agent

  1. Review the Agent name, instructions, Tools, and knowledge access.
  2. Select Publish, Enable, or Share with workspace.
  3. Choose visibility.
  4. Confirm.

Expected result: the Agent appears in the selected Agent list.

To coordinate multiple Agents through one App, see 09-agent-team-with-apps.md.

Troubleshooting

  • If the Agent gives generic answers, connect a Space or improve the instructions.
  • If the Agent cannot use a Tool, check Tool permissions.
  • If the Agent is too expensive to run, reduce high-cost Tools or model settings.
  • If the Agent exposes private knowledge, narrow the connected Spaces.

Product Decisions Needed

  • Exact Agent visibility labels.
  • Whether Agent publishing requires review.
  • Where advanced model/provider settings live.
